SKILLS

Adaptability in Resource-Limited Settings
Throughout my Master’s in Shelter Medicine, I have developed the ability to adapt clinical decision-making to environments where resources, time, and information may be limited. Shelter medicine often requires balancing ideal medical care with realistic constraints, and I have learned to prioritize interventions that provide the greatest impact on both individual animals and the overall population. This adaptability allows me to remain effective and solution-oriented, even in high-pressure or unpredictable situations.
Communication and Education
My graduate work has emphasized the importance of clear, accessible communication for diverse audiences, including shelter staff, adopters, and the public. Through creating presentations, SOPs, and educational materials, I have learned to translate complex medical concepts into practical, easy-to-understand information. This ensures that recommendations are not only understood but also implemented effectively, improving animal welfare and community engagement.
Program Development and Strategic Thinking
During my Master’s program, I have developed skills in designing and evaluating programs that address gaps in veterinary care, such as preventive care clinics and shelter protocols. I have learned to think beyond individual cases and consider broader system-level impacts, including resource allocation, community needs, and sustainability. This ability allows me to contribute to long-term solutions that improve access to care and reduce shelter intake.
